To enrol on this course, you need to hold a Swiss Federal Certificate of Competence (CFC) or equivalent qualification, and have at least 2 years' professional experience in a management role involving the supervision of at least two people.

This course is aimed at anyone wishing to acquire a global vision of business management in order to take on the management of an SME or occupy a key position within a large organisation. It is particularly suited to the following profiles:

    • Employees working in an SME wishing to move into a management role.
    • Managers or future managers wishing to structure and validate their managerial skills.
    • Self-employed or taking over a business wishing to acquire a solid background in management.
    • Managers in large companies wishing to obtain a qualification recognised by the Swiss Confederation

The federal examination for SME Management Specialists is organised twice a year by FEP Switzerland, in spring and autumn. It takes place at approved centres recognised by the body responsible for the examination, in French-speaking Switzerland.

If you are starting the course now, the examination session will be that of 2027, As the course lasts around a year, you will have enough time to complete all 6 modules before sitting the final exam.

The course is priced at CHF 12 900., excluding federal examination fees.

The good news is that the Confederation can reimburse up to 50 % of your training costs. Since 2018, the Confederation has reimbursed 50 % of the costs of courses preparing for a federal certificate, up to a maximum of CHF 9,500, provided that the candidate sits the federal examination after the course. Entitlement to the subsidy is independent of the examination result. 

In concrete terms, for a course costing CHF 12,900, you can receive a reimbursement of CHF 6 450.00, bringing your net investment to CHF 6 450.00.

Qualifying conditions:

  • Attend a course on the SEFRI list of preparatory courses, pay the course fees yourself and be legally resident in Switzerland at the time of taking the exam.
  • The grant application is submitted after passing the federal examination, by submitting invoices and proof of payment via the SEFRI online portal.

You should also bear in mind that the price of the exam is not included in the preparation. It depends on the examination centre, and costs around CHF 2,000.

The federal examination for SME Management Specialists is divided into two main stages.

Stage 1: Validation of the 6 modules During the course, you will follow and validate the six modules of the programme. Each module is examined separately. Passing all six module exams is a prerequisite for sitting the final exam.

Stage 2: The final exam Once you have completed the six modules, you register with an approved centre recognised by FEP Switzerland to take the final exam. This consists of three tests:

Successful completion of the final examination leads to the title of Federal Certificate of Specialist in SME Management, issued by the Swiss Confederation.
