Interview with Christophe Rieder

Can you tell us about your career path and what led you to create BetterStudy?
After several years working in private banking in Geneva, I wanted to change direction and move into training. I worked for several years as an adult education teacher in accounting at various private schools in the cantons of Geneva and Vaud, as a teaching assistant at the Geneva School of Business (which, like the HES-SO Valais, is a BetterStudy client) and with younger students training for their CFC (Federal Certificate of Competence) in commercial employment. I also continue to teach part-time at the business school alongside my work at BetterStudy.
I quickly realised that some people were looking for more flexibility, which was not possible with traditional training courses. That's what prompted me to create BetterStudy, an online solution that allows everyone to train in accounting and human resources at their own pace and from any computer in a motivating and effective manner.
What sets BetterStudy apart from other online training platforms, particularly in the fields of accounting and human resources?
At BetterStudy, we offer interactive digital training courses with a learning platform that identifies learning needs and generates exercise programmes tailored to those needs. BetterStudy publishes content focused on the specific needs of professionals undergoing retraining and specialisation.
BetterStudy offers personalised support for its e-learning programme, with trainers who have professional experience in the field.
It is a unique ecosystem for learning at your own pace from home or the office.
What role does continuing education play in Switzerland in career development, particularly in the accounting and human resources professions?
Continuing education is crucial for professional development, especially in fields such as accounting and HR, where skills evolve rapidly and specialisation is often necessary to advance. With the democratisation of artificial intelligence, it is even more important to engage in continuous learning to improve one's professional, methodological and personal skills.
How do you see the demand for training in accounting and human resources evolving in Switzerland over the next few years?
Demand will increase with the digitisation of businesses and the growing need for effective human resources and financial management. Professionals will need to train to remain competitive. Among the advantages of training at an online training institute such as BetterStudy is the fact that you are immersed in a digital and remote learning environment, which is already the norm for many companies with teleworking and the various communication tools associated with this form of work.
What, in your opinion, are the advantages of online training compared to traditional classroom training?
Flexibility, personalisation and round-the-clock access to training courses are the main advantages. Learners can study while balancing their work or personal lives. Becoming familiar with the digital world during training is also an additional asset that can be highlighted to set oneself apart from other candidates when looking for a job.
What key skills do you think a good accounting or human resources professional should have today?
In addition to technical skills, you need to have strong organisational and time management skills, as well as good interpersonal skills to navigate constantly changing environments. To go even further, you also need to cultivate an open, curious and proactive attitude, for example by making suggestions for improvements to innovate in the company's processes or on behalf of its clients. Languages are certainly an added advantage, as are leadership skills if you are interested in team management.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career change to accounting or human resources through continuing education?
Go for it! This is an opportunity to secure a stable and well-paid career. Choose a flexible training programme that fits in with your personal and professional commitments.
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.
What is your long-term vision for BetterStudy and how do you see the future of e-learning in your sector?
In the long term, BetterStudy will continue to innovate and personalise training programmes. E-learning will become increasingly integrated into the daily lives of professionals thanks to immersive and adaptive technologies.
