Context and issues

Today, e-commerce is one of the most dynamic sectors of the Swiss and global economy. Faced with accelerating digital transformation, companies of all sizes - from SMEs to major groups - have a growing need for professionals capable of managing their e-commerce activities with rigour and strategy. However, Switzerland does not yet have any specific initial vocational training in e-commerce at apprenticeship level: this gap makes the federal diploma for e-commerce specialists a particularly valuable and rare qualification on the job market.

Purchasing behaviour has changed radically: the boundaries between physical and digital commerce are disappearing, consumers are demanding seamless omnichannel experiences, and mastery of digital platforms, SEO, marketing automation and customer data has become an essential strategic skill. In this context, an e-commerce specialist with a federal diploma is no longer simply an online shop manager: he or she is the guarantor of the overall performance of digital channels, an agile project manager, a customer experience expert and a pillar of the company's competitiveness.

Recognised by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SEFRI) and included in the National Qualifications Framework at level 5, this qualification is legally protected, valued by recruiters and opens the door to further study at a university of applied sciences (CAS, DAS, MAS). Investing in this qualification means positioning yourself with authority in one of the most buoyant markets of the decade.

The final federal examination consists of four complementary parts, which assess both the candidate's theoretical knowledge and practical skills in their professional field.

The part one consists of writing a personal development report, prepared in advance of the exam. Candidates analyse a real-life professional situation in the e-commerce sector, demonstrating their ability to identify the issues, propose solutions and measure the results obtained.

The part two takes the form of a oral technical interview on this report. The panel of experts looks in depth at the key points of the document, questions the choices made and assesses the candidate's mastery of the subjects covered.

The PART THREE is a analysis with oral presentation. Candidates are given an e-commerce case study on the day of the exam, which they must analyse and present to the jury, demonstrating their strategic and operational thinking.

The fourth and final part is made up of mini-cases and critical incidents. Candidates respond to practical scenarios from everyday e-commerce life, testing their responsiveness, professional judgement and ability to manage real-life situations.

During the course 7 module exams (A to G) take place face-to-face at the end of each module. Successful completion of these modules is a prerequisite for the final federal examination.
