Job market: trends and tips for a successful job search

Interview with Mylène Bourg

What are the current trends in the Swiss job market?

The digital sector continues to hire, particularly in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and data management. The healthcare sector remains under pressure, with strong demand for medical and paramedical professions. Finance and insurance are looking for risk management experts, while the ecological transition is creating opportunities in renewable energy and environmental engineering.

Training in these areas can be an asset in standing out to recruiters.

How can you successfully return to the job market after a period of inactivity?

Returning to work after a break requires effective preparation. It is crucial to update your skills, undertake training if necessary, and adapt your CV to current market requirements.

Highlighting informal experiences, such as volunteering or personal projects, can also make a difference.

An active network is a major asset: participating in professional events provides access to opportunities that are sometimes hidden in the job market.

What are the main challenges of retraining in Switzerland and how can they be overcome?

A career change often means a lack of experience in the new field. To overcome this problem, taking training courses and completing internships or one-off assignments can be a good solution. It is also essential to highlight your transferable skills and clearly explain your approach in your CV and cover letter.

Networking also plays a key role: meeting professionals in your target sector and obtaining recommendations increases your chances of being recruited.

What do recruiters really expect?

Swiss recruiters value candidates with experience, well-defined skills and a clear career path. Language skills, particularly French, German and English depending on the region, are a major asset. A clear and structured CV that highlights the candidate's achievements and strengths significantly increases their chances of success.

How can a candidate stand out in a competitive job market?

Candidates should tailor their CV and cover letter to each job application. Highlighting specific achievements, maintaining a professional LinkedIn profile, and thoroughly preparing for interviews are effective strategies. Finally, avoiding common mistakes, such as a generic CV or a lack of clarity in one's career history, is essential to maximising one's chances.
